McCain's CPAC Suck-up

They both seek, in one swoop, to achieve a grand solution to a persistent, difficult problem. No "smallball"! The Iraq Project would begin the transformation of the Middle East, an area that had frustrated president after president. "Comprehensive" immigration reform would, as the name suggests, resolve in one bold bill the centuries-old immigration issue--including a) devising a way to keep out illegal workers while b) providing business with legal immigrant workers, plus c) deciding what to do with illegals who are already here. It would, as Bush said Tuesday, be "conclusive."

4. In both cases, they envision a complicated, triple-bank shot chain of events happening just as Bush wishes it to happen. Iraqis were going to be grateful to their American liberators, come together in peace and give us a stable "ally in the war on terror." Hispanics, in the happy Rovian scenario behind Bush's immigration plan, would be grateful to Republicans for bringing them out of the shadows, etc., ensuring a large and growing GOP Latino vote for decades to come.

Rallyists take MRT to Makati

The Metro Rail Transit (MRT) III became the preferred mode of transportation for people joining Friday's interfaith rally in Makati, ABS-CBN News learned.

Buses, usually full of passengers on weekdays, noticeably had less passengers, due to predicted traffic jams due to the rally.

People instead opted to take the MRT, but as ABS-CBN News correspondent Jorge Cariño reported, the increased number of people taking the train even the trip to the stations became harder.

Some of the rally participants who were seen taking the MRT to Makati were a group of nuns from Quezon City, and the group of Akbayan Rep. Ana Theresia "Risa" Hontiveros-Baraquel.

As rush hour approached, the number of people expected to use the MRT system is expected to increase.

Madeleine McCann And Shannon Matthews: And Jamie Bulger

In his latest blog, Mr McCann writes: "We did hear that the French have officially ruled out the reported sighting of Madeleine in Montpellier."

We watch the McCanns. And we scrutinise their every word. They now even report on the case.

THE OBSERVER: “'James would be 18 now - the pain of losing him will never go away'

Fifteen years ago, the murder of toddler James Bulger by two young boys horrified Britain and inflicted deep wounds on their home city of Liverpool. In this moving interview, James's mother Denise Fergus tells Elizabeth Day that the passing years have not diminished the pain over the loss of her son and her anger towards his killers, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables.

In the aftermath of the trial in November 1993, the Daily Star carried pictures of Venables and Thompson underneath the headline 'How do you feel now you little bastards?'

Denise Fergus still cannot bring herself to walk near the Walton railway line… It has been 15 years since the murder of her son James Bulger on this stretch of track; 15 years since he was beaten to death by two killers who were themselves children.

MythBusters: 7 Tech Headaches—and How to Fix Them

Then, give us the option of adding the bells and whistles. There's another solution available to consumers: Switch to a Linux-based OS such as Ubuntu. Since most Linux OSs are free, there's no business reason to bloat up the system with feature frills. And high-tech companies—stop messing with us on your treadmill of upgrades while making the old stuff obsolete. It may be that any software company that didn't routinely upgrade its product would go out of business. But what if the rest of the world worked this way? Oh, I lost a sock. I need to get a whole new wardrobe because the replacement sock is version 2.0.1, and the stores now only sell version 2.0.3. Automobiles with obnoxious electronics. There are all sorts of things that are being built into cars that are really bugging a lot of us.
